Advantages & Disadvantages of Online Poker

With online poker becoming so popular on sites like Full Tilt Poker and thousands of players beginning there poker careers on the internet nowadays it’s important you know the advantages and the disadvantages. I personally find that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages of playing poker online and if you don’t live near a casino like most of us then online poker is your only option. We’ll now look at some of the advantages and disadvantages to play poker online.

Advantages

* You can play a lot faster online and there are time limits enforced every time it’s someone’s turn to act which always ensures the table moves smoothly. In a casino it can take awhile for people to call and if you feel like setting a time limit on the player they still get a lot more time then allowed when playing online.

* You won’t need to worry about the rules not being followed when playing online as the software ensures everyone bets and folds in order. There is no way for the rules to be swayed so that a player has any sort of advantage.

* Chips are automatically counted and sent to the winner of the hand online while when playing in a casino you need to manually count the chips and it takes a lot longer then a computer doing the work.

* The biggest advantage of playing internet poker is that you can play in the comfort of your own house and you can play whenever you feel like playing. You don’t need to go anywhere except to your computer which makes the convenience of playing a lot better.

Disadvantages

* There have been some recent scandals in some online poker rooms so you need to always be weary about where you play. There are some rooms with years of offering a safe secure experience though so you just need to play with them to be safe.

* You need to worry about losing your connection because most poker rooms don’t allow for connection losses. You’ll have no protection in the hand and you’ll be folded if your time limit runs out which could potentially cost you a huge hand if your connection goes down at a bad time.

* The money takes a couple days to receive whereas in a casino if you win then you get the money instantly when you cash out.

* The action isn’t the same as playing in real life so if you can’t adapt to the online environment then you might not fall in love with online poker.

Overall I find that the advantages of playing on a site like PokerStars.net far outweigh the disadvantages of online poker and you should be able to come to the same conclusion. You can find action whenever you want to play poker online and you’ll always be able to play when you want which is impossible to do in person unless you live next to a casino. If you’ve never given online poker a chance then I would recommend trying it out as there are a lot of new players who play online and you could win there money easier then beating the regulars at a casino.
